The Luck of the Irish (Movies)
There is just something spectacularly magnetic about a romantic movie set in Ireland. Whether it is a romantic comedy like Leap Year or Made of Honor, a wonderful classic like The Quiet Man, a bittersweet tale of love like P.S. I Love You, or a simple, beautiful romance like Once, Ireland provides the perfect backdrop for any love story. Even Hallmark has realized the extra spark that an Ireland-set film adds, filming not just one but two of their signature romantic comedies in Ireland last year. But what is it about Ireland that makes even the most mediocre of movies special? Is it the beautiful views of rolling hills and country cottages? The city streets full of so much character? Or maybe it is the lovely brogue of the city or townsfolk in the movie that adds that extra touch of loveliness. Likely it is a combination of some or all of these unique Irish traits that makes the viewer swoon even before the first crack of romantic tension.
St. Patrick’s Day is the perfect excuse to take a break to sit down and enjoy one of the many lovely romances set in Ireland. So, take a load off and catch an old favorite or one that is new to you. And if you discover something new and spectacular, let me know! I am always up to swoon…
