A Hail of a Story
Are you ready to return to Aspen Cove? The next Aspen Cove story, One Hundred Chances, belongs to veterinarian Sara and rancher Lloyd. No sooner have they been reintroduced after decades of separation when Aspen Cove is hit with a massive summer storm. When you read the book you will see how the storm figures into the story, but the storm not only impacts Sara and Lloyd – the hail from the storm wreaks major havoc on the entire town. Which made me wonder – how big can hailstones actually get?
Apparently, pretty darned big.
In 2018, reports indicate that a hailstone 9.3 inches in diameter – that’s right, I said inches – fell in Villa Carlos Paz, Cordoba Province, Argentina. And we worry about golf ball-sized hail! That hailstone surpassed the previous record-holder, an 8-inch hailstone that fell in Vivian, South Dakota, in 2010. It has been reported that the hailstone may have been ten inches in diameter but had melted down by the time it was collected.
So, apparently hailstones can actually be as big as your head. Think about that the next time you’re hit by a hailstorm!
You can read more about the storm that hits Aspen Cove (and find out how Sara ends up strapped to a board in the back of Lloyd’s pick up) when One Hundred Chances goes live on 8/15!
